WOOD SLICE ORNAMENT SUPPLIES
PAINT THE WOOD SLICE
Using your paint brush, create an outline of a circle. I found it easiest to trace along a line on the wood slice.
Fill in the inner circle with a thin coat of the chalkboard paint.
The chalkboard paint will dry fairly quickly. However, it is best to allow it to cure for 24 hours before moving on to the next step.
PERSONALIZE THE ORNAMENT
Shake the chalk marker before using it and then design your wood slice ornament however you’d like. The great thing about this marker is that you can wipe it up if you mess up.
I mentioned earlier that this is a wonderful gift for grandparents. This suggestion comes from experience. A few years ago, my daughter and I got all of the wood slice ornaments painted with the chalkboard paint. We then had each grandchild decorate one ornament however they wanted to. We used a permanent marker and wrote their name and the date on the back. My parents absolutely loved this gift!
Simply tie jute or any type of yarn or string to the wood slice ornament so that it can hang on a tree.
GET THE FAMILY INVOLVED
This DIY project is so quick and simple…and it’s pretty fun too. My family worked on painting and personalizing the rest of the wood slices.
Disclaimer: you never know what you’ll get when the family is involved. They do add an extra special personal touch though!
DECORATE
There are so many possibilities for this project. For instance, place them on your own tree, give as a gift, use as gift tags, or maybe for a completely different purpose this season!
I’d love to hear how you would use these DIY wood slice ornaments this Christmas!
