Small hallways are easy to ignore, but we shouldn’t do that! One month. $100. Our hallway and linen closet makeover will be simple, sweet, and bring cohesiveness to our home.
Eek! I am so excited for this $100 room challenge! There is an area of our home that we each literally walk through hundreds of times a day. And it’s ugly. Two great reasons for a hallway and linen closet makeover.
First: a huge thank you to Erin at Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry for hosting this amazing challenge. Pop over and give her a hello! {Click HERE!}
During my last $100 room challenge, I gave our first floor entryway and staircase a makeover. It turned out amazing because it pulled our entire first floor together in one central spot. But there was something that I didn’t share with you: the top of the stairs.
Here’s my moment of truth: that makeover stopped at the top of our staircase. Just out of view from my camera lens was the rest of the space. It also desperately needed a makeover, but my time and money had run out.

But here we are today: at the beginning of another $100 room challenge and what I like to think is a continuation of that staircase makeover.
Let’s take a quick look at the before of this hallway and linen closet makeover space and I’ll chat about a few plans. There is very little that is set in stone with this project: I typically wing it and see how each week goes. Buckle up because who knows what’s gonna happen from here on out!

HALLWAY BEFORE
Can you see that pretty freshly painted wall down there? That’s the end of my staircase makeover. Once you make that last turn though, all bets are off and it’s brown and boring.
First things first for this project: paint! The walls, baseboard, and doors will all get a fresh coat of paint. {Walls: Behr Swiss Coffee and trim: Behr base white}
I did clean up and give this railing a fresh coat of gel stain when I worked on the other railing in this staircase. Looking back, I sure am glad that I took that extra step and did so because it is one less thing on my to-do list.
〈RAILING AND BANISTER REFRESH〉
Taking a step back a little further, you can seeour green staircase. There are a few ideas floating around in my head and I plan to incorporate that green somewhere in here. Even though there isn’t a lot of wall space, I have some plans to cozy it up with a few things I already have on hand.
On the other side of this hallway and linen closet makeover is the rest of the space.
Straight ahead is our full bathroom, which was my first $100 room challenge in this house. {Hint, hint: at some point I plan to change up the paint as it doesn’t quite feel like it fits in with the rest of the house anymore.}
LINEN CLOSET BEFORE
Our one full bathroom has very limited storage space, so this small linen closet needs to hold a lot for my family of five.
Earlier this year, I did a clean-out of this linen closet and we’re down to just the items that we actually use.
The plan is to clear it all out, possibly change the shelving height, and it will definitely get a fresh coat of paint.
One super weird thing is a step in our linen closet. I have no idea why there is a bottom shelf and it isn’t just the floor. Since our first look at our home, I’ve wondered what it was for. It looks like I’ll find out as it will be removed very soon.
HALLWAY LIGHTING BEFORE
Ugh, this ceiling light fixture. It matched the one in our first floor hallway and I’ve been looking forward to replacing this one too. To be honest, I have no idea what light fixture will end up here. I don’t have one randomly on hand like last time, so a bit of my $100 budget will have to go towards new lighting. In the meantime, I’ll be on the look out for a budget-friendly vintage light.
〈HALLWAY AND STAIRCASE VINTAGE LIGHT〉
It’s not a huge space, but it’s such an eyesore that I cannot wait to enjoy walking through this hallway.

You always do an amazing job with these challenges, and I KNOW this one is going to be awesome! I am so hoping that step isn’t hiding a hole in the floor or something 🙂 So excited to see how you work with this space!

Oh that will look fantastic to have the hallway all finished off! I did my linen closet for a previous $100 Room Challenge and loved that having that extra push helped me to make it look and function exactly how I wanted it to instead of putting it off.

Yesss!!! I definitely need a kick in the pants to pretty up my linen closet…and will be so glad every time I open it once it’s done.

Go for it! Sometimes I tuck things away so it’s out of sight and see if I actually need them. A few weeks later and I come across it and realize that by donating it, someone else will be excited to have it.
