Paint is an amazing way to give a room a completely new look. Our hallway and linen closet makeover is one step closer to being done after a few days of painting.
Week one of the $100 Room Challenge is complete and the difference made in that time is amazing. The very first week of a project usually requires the most amount of work. And this was no different. Within a few days, a little demo was done and the space was painted.

Let’s take a quick peek at the before photos and then see what our hallway and linen closet makeover looks like now.
HALLWAY AND LINEN CLOSET BEFORE
This space didn’t necessarily look bad. It just needed a fresh coat of paint and a little charm added.
〈$100 ROOM CHALLENGE: HALLWAY & LINEN CLOSET BEFORE〉
The linen closet definitely needed some freshening up and a lot of organization.
LINEN CLOSET DEMO
To save on the budget, the layout of the linen closet will stay the same. It desperately needs to be painted though.
And this step needs to be removed. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have no idea why the bottom of this linen closet was raised up.
I was a little nervous to see what was under this “step.” Turns out that it wasn’t there for any useful reason.
After being cleaned up and painted, the floor actually doesn’t look that bad. James is going to help me finish out the baseboard in here so we don’t have to look at the rough edging of the plaster walls.
SMOKE DETECTOR
I am all for safety and smoke detectors, but I have no idea why there is one right here. It is on the tiny wall beside the bathroom and it is the first thing anyone sees when they walk up the stairs. Removing it was easy and James re-installed it on the ceiling.
HALLWAY PAINTED
Two coats of Behr Swiss Coffee on the walls and Behr base white for the walls and it feels so fresh and clean now.
The “funny” thing about whenever I paint a room in our home, we all say something like, “It looks like it always should have.” The difference between the before and after is dramatic, but it also isn’t dramatic. Meaning, it looks so much better because it’s light and bright now. But it’s not a change that is shocking. This hallway now feels like home. ♥
Notice how it doesn’t even look like a smoke detector was ever there. Woohoo! Also…come back next week for a semi-weird thing that I plan to do on that tiny wall.
〈FULL BATHROOM MAKEOVER〉 〈FULL BATHROOM REFRESH〉
I got as far as painting the ceiling and walls of the linen closet. There is still a coat or two of paint needed on the trim. And I am working on a little pop for this space coming next week!

Such a lovely color! Paint is just an affordable way to change any room. How odd that step in the closet wasn’t hiding anything? I thought for sure…

Me too! I was a little scared the first time I peeked in…just lots of cobwebs. So basically, it was a spider’s paradise. 😉
