Adding simple touches of beauty and slight changes in our home can add a cozy feel to any room. Come see the little changes made in our home this month.
There have been a few little things on my to-do list this summer that I just kept ignoring. They weren’t huge tasks, but rather ones that took mere minutes. Often, I ignore those the longest because it doesn’t feel like they will have a cozy impact on our home. This month, I proved myself wrong and now I just want to do all the “little” to-do tasks!

TRANSPLANTING A SPIDER PLANT
My sweet momma gave me a spider plant and truth be told: I almost killed it once or twice. But when I did set my mind to keeping it alive, it sure did grow! Plants have a funny way of doing that and now this one had outgrown its planter.
Using two leftover candle jars, this spider plant was separated into two plants.
And then: I planted one of the new spider plant babies in one of the candle jars. This one is purely an experiment, so we’ll see how it goes. I figure that it’s a free project, so if it doesn’t actually grow, then no harm done.

One of the full-sized plants is now in our kitchen and I am enjoying the touch of color to our black and white photo wall.

The other spider plant is nestled in our library and the pop of fresh green against the black wall livens this room up.

KITCHEN FAUX CUTTING BOARD REFRESH
Soon after we moved in, James used a few cabinets that were removed from our kitchen to build one for our garbage can. Since we plan to change our countertop at some point he used some leftober boards to create a top. Well, it’s been over a year and the stain has seen better days.

Using a gel stain that I already had, this faux cutting board countertop received a fresh new cozy look.

After two coats of the gel stain, I applied a beeswax finish to seal the stain. Neither of those products are food-grade, but that isn’t a worry as food is never placed on this surface.
BATHROOM ARTWORK
After our full bathroom refresh, this little space on our wall sat empty. I kept telling myself that I should hang something there and then would forget. Determined to finally carry through, I dug out a frame and found a print in an artwork book that I thought would work well here.
And it does! Actually, it makes this bathroom feel a bit cozy now. Is that weird to say about a bathroom? Weird or not, it’s true!

PROPAGATING A PHILODENDRON
Apparently, this is a great location for my philodendron because it has recently grown out of control. A few little snips at the end and I moved some stems to our dining room.
I’m enjoying the pop of pink and green in an otherwise sea of creams and whites in our dining room hutch.
A few simple and budget-friendly changes around the home has added a cozy feel to a few spaces.

I just love this new series Leigh. You are absolutely right, the little things do make a difference! I spent my weekend painting our door that goes into our carport. I don’t know why I waited so long, especially since it’s the door our family uses most as well as our friends when they visit! I painted our front door last year and had it looking spiffy and yet the door we actually use everyday looked forlorn. So I rummaged through my paint supply and found a deep green(similar to your stair riser color😍) and gave that door a fresh coat, a new welcome mat, hung a fun sign beside the door and added a fall welcome sign on the door. Now I love it! I can’t stop going outside to look at it and thinking why did I wait so long!

Elise,
I absolutely love this story! I do the same thing and put off little projects and wonder why I took so long when I finally get to it. Thank you for this encouragement!
