Raising boys is an adventure all it’s own and these books about parenting boys have equipped me with knowledge. I’ve grown to understand, appreciate, and enjoy being a mom of boys.
Growing up as the only girl with three brothers, I have a natural appreciation for boy life. Honestly, I didn’t enjoy it all those years ago. But now that I look back, I can see that my brothers greatly shaped who I am today.
Fast forward many years and I’m on the other side and raising boys of my own and I can see how much goes into growing them into godly men who will one day lead their own families, churches, and communities. That thought has caused James and I to be intentional in our parenting of our two sons.
While many books about parenting are great, I have held onto four that were specific about raising boys. They each played an instrumental part in my thinking about this season of life, where I get to watch these two grow into young men right before my eyes.

FOUR BOOKS ABOUT PARENTING BOYS
All four of these books came along at different times, but all have encouraged and convicted me in some way. They are a great resource that I go back to often.
1. KEEP THE GOOD IN YOUR BOY
This book was my very first “world of boys” book. It gave me so much knowledge and equipped me to parent my boys intentionally. I appreciated reading this before we hit the tween years with my older son because I felt more prepared. We’ve encountered many of the situations Dannah discusses in this book and I was so thankful that I was aware of them and could face them from more of an offensive position.
2. BOYS SHOULD BE BOYS
This book is a favorite of mine…I’ve read it a few times. Dr. Meeker’s first-hand experience and her willingness not to hold back on information, was so refreshing. She gave me courage to parent my boys differently than how the world is screaming I should.
3. STRONG MOTHERS, STRONG SONS
Yep, another book by Meg Meeker. I read the other book prior to “Amazon life” and years later, I came across this book. I had no idea she had written a few books and am so glad she did! This book has so much to dive into and I really appreciated how in-depth she went into each topic from birth to adulthood.
4. RAISING REAL MEN
After listening to the authors speak at a homeschool convention, I picked up their book. My biggest take away from this book were all of it’s practical day to day life applications. The writing is down to earth and I gleaned a lot that I was able to immediately put into practice parenting my boys.
This raising of boys isn’t for the faint of heart and I am so glad that God has gifted some to share their experiences with other moms through books. I absolutely love being a mom to boys. My sons make each and every day much more interesting and they both keep me on my toes. Life is amazing as I have a front row seat to watch them grow into men of God.
