Decorating for Christmas can be done at a fun and enjoyable slow pace. The perfect place to begin is with a Christmas kitchen window garland. Combining faux and live greenery is the key to a full garland.
Even though this is our second Christmas in our home, I feel like it’s the first. We were still in survival mode last December and even though the holidays were special, I just didn’t know my house very well. One year later and I am so looking forward to decorating our home. I decided to take it a bit slow and ease into our Christmas decor. Mostly because I just don’t have a few days straight to spend on it, but also because I want to be intentional about how I decorate.

I decided to start with a Christmas kitchen window garland. Why? Because I had a vision for the look I wanted and think this spot will help set the tone for the rest of my decorating.

My personal preference is for live greenery as opposed to faux. But since that will easily die before Christmas, I had to compromise with myself. I decided to use faux garland as the bulk and basis of my Christmas window decor.
The easiest way to hang this is with a few nails hammered into the frame above my windows. In order to keep the garland in place, I wrapped pieces of it around those nails. The great benefit of faux greenery is the wire that allows you to bend and twist it in all different directions.
These nails will also hold Christmas twinkle lights in place as well. I decided to use two sets of battery-operated light strands to add a subtle glow beneath our window garland.
MIXING FAUX AND REAL
Once the faux greenery was in place and fluffed just how I wanted it, I started adding real greenery. I picked up some eucalyptus and tree clippings at our grocery store. By simply tucking it in here and there, I was able to fill in the faux with real greenery to give it a full look.
I even added some of the dried eucalyptus from my fall decor to add a subtle touch of natural color. {Click HERE for my fall home tour.}
