A cozy fall living room doesn’t have to include all kinds of “decor” but can be a simple transition from summer to fall.
It’s official: today begins fall! What better way to start it than with a peek at our cozy fall living room. It may not be quite what you expect and I actually surprised myself with the changes made. See if you can figure out what I did NOT include…and why.

COZY FALL LIVING ROOM
This sofa. It is the most amazing and comfortable piece of furniture I have ever owned. {click HERE for sofa info} Why not make it even cozier with some new throw pillows?
My favorite throw pillow is filled with down feather. These pillows will squish and mold with you as you nestle in to your cozy fall living room. But…they can easily be fluffed back up and look pretty. Oh and they’ll last forever. I prefer to change out pillow covers as those are so much easier to store than a handful of pillows.
THE COLOR SCHEME
This rug was recently moved from our dining room into our living room. I instantly loved the warmth it added to the room. Using some of the colors in the rug, I settled on adding pillows in deep blush and gold/mustard colors. I wanted a touch of a dark tone to balance out a few dark furniture pieces in the room. And so, I settled on a deep blue throw blanket in our cozy fall living room. {click HERE for this knitted throw blanket and HERE for the blush pillows and HERE for the rug}

I hadn’t changed the mantel decor since early spring. And I was completely unsure of what my vision was. The first step was to remove everything that had been in the space and then “shop my house” for some pieces that could go together. {To see what this room looked like before, click HERE.}
PAINTED FIREPLACE MANTEL
I settled on a basket containing two philodendron plants, a handful of battery-operated pillar candles, and a huge round mirror. {click HERE for the candles}
This enormous mirror was an antique week find for $3 and the plan is for it to replace the current mirror in our half bathroom. But until James has time for that project, I decided to use it instead of storing it in the basement.
I added a few large amber bottles and more candles on top of a little vintage stool. It feels like an extension of the plant and I am liking the asymmetrical look.
FUNCTIONAL BEAUTY
A vase full of faux gold colored grasses is helping me cover all of the tv wires. And an old picnic basket full of books is adding to the cozy fall living room factor.
Did you figure out what I did not include in my cozy fall living room? If you guessed the traditional real or faux pumpkins, then you are right. Why? Well, the main reason is that I first wanted to transition my living room from summer to fall. This doesn’t necessarily mean adding tons of “fall decor.” It was as simple as changing out the color scheme and giving a new look to the mantel.
What surprised me the most was the simplicity of it all. Just replacing a few items was enough for me. I kept coming back in and taking a peek to see if I really liked it. Every time, my heart breathed a little sigh. That’s a great indication of design meeting your taste.
Oh and the added bonus was each of my kids walking in on different occasions and exclaiming, “Wow, Mom! That looks great!” And really, what better confirmation can there be?
How about you, friend? Does decorating for a holiday feel overwhelming? Maybe try doing this: leave out the “fall” and just change it up a little bit until your heart settles and says, “ahh, yes, this is it.”

You fall decor is SO CUTE. I also love that fun coffee table that doubles as a footstool while sitting on the couch. I am loving this fall weather, sipping on my pumpkin chai tea and seeing all the fun-sized pumpkins on front porches. I just got my carpets and area rugs professionally cleaned and so I’m ready to start decorating for Fall and pretty quick after that, Christmas!
