On Saturday morning, I grabbed one of my kiddos and went to pick up a table and chair set that my mom found online in my area. Just before we got home, I saw a bright sign sitting in the snow saying “Estate Sale” and I turned in the direction of the arrow. Maybe it was the fact that I put myself on a thrift store/garage sale/secondhand buying freeze while we sold our farmhouse and bought our new home. Or maybe it was the thrill of having just picked up “someone else’s junk” that flashed the “it might have treasures” thought through my mind. {Insert teenage son’s eye roll right about here.}
Can I be honest though? I usually avoid estate sales. They feel a bit depressing to me. People just milling about in a stranger’s home going through their earthly possessions. I feel like I need to walk quietly and solemnly through an estate sale. Okay, the buzz kill is now over because I decided that I was going to appreciate this home and it’s contents and give new life to anything that made my heart go pitter-patter.

A little while later, I walked out with these great finds:
Can you tell that I am really digging the deeper tones this winter season?
I displayed the stack or wood bowls, wood tray, and 5 mugs in my dining room hutch.
The brass candle holder is sitting right next to a chair in our living room This is where you’ll find me early in the morning sipping my homemade kombucha tea and doing my devotions.
The brass candle sticks have found a little corner on our living room mantel. And that big empty spot? My daughter {Salt and Light Girl} is currently working on a Christmas canvas to fill the wall. {Stay tuned for that!}
Now this is where the story gets good. You see, I was perfectly happy with my purchases. I came home, cleaned them up, and put them to use. But…isn’t there always a “but” with sales like this? You see, there was this drop leaf table at the estate sale. And I kept walking back into the room that it was in and looking it. My heart was pitter-pattering over it {and the price was incredible}. I just didn’t know where I would put it in our new home. But, the wood tone was beautiful…and the legs…it had such pretty legs. I simply walked away though. Maybe it was the fact that my minivan was already full with a table and chairs. But I simply left the table there. Until…
three hours later when I just couldn’t get it out of my head. And I knew that we would use it…somewhere. So, I went back for the table and was shocked to find that it hadn’t been purchased. It was just meant to be. And now she is in a little corner of our living room by our Christmas tree.
Our Favorite Hot Cocoa:
We have had snow most every day since we moved into our house and since I don’t drink coffee, we’ve been crushing on this hot cocoa. But, friends, I found the most amazing way to enjoy hot cocoa! With milk! Want to know how we make it?
Warm up a couple cups of milk on your stovetop. Keep an eye on it and stir frequently.
I’ve tried all the different Archer Farms hot cocoa mixes and guess what? They are all my favorite!
{Dark Chocolate, Peppermint, Sea Salt Caramel, and Cinnamon}
Stir in the mix and enjoy in front of the twinkling lights of your Christmas tree.
And then…I remembered my new mugs and had to make another cup of hot cocoa…

You just never know what you’ll find at an estate sale. Most times, I don’t go home with anything. But sometimes, the treasures will be ‘a plenty and you will find the blessing of giving new life to some new things you never knew would be perfect for your home.
xo,
Leigh
