Many activities have come and gone, but this simple family Valentine’s celebration is one that we continue from year to year. It’s an evening that we all look forward to…for the treat and the time gathered together.
I’ve joined up with a few other blogging friends to bring you some Valentine’s inspiration. If you’ve popped over from Jennifer at Jenron Designs, then hello! So glad to have you here.

FAMILY FOCUSED
Valentine’s Day can focus on different relationships, but we wanted to be intentional about it being a way to show love within our family. Teaching our children that their siblings will be their longtime friends and to pour into each other is really important.
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
When my three teens were all little, I wanted to have a special evening on Valentine’s Day with them. One that they would look back on someday with fond memories. But life was full and the budget was tight.
I had heard about chocolate fountains and fondue parties and decided to keep it simple. After a little brainstorming, I settled on our own “chocolate-dipping” party.
SIMPLE FAMILY VALENTINE’S CELEBRATION
After dinner on Valentine’s Day, we clean up and gather all the fixings. I melt chocolate chips and butter on the stovetop and set out different food items to dip in the melted chocolate.
Over the years, we’ve changed it up a bit and the best solution for the chocolate is that everyone gets their own bowl. When they were younger, this eliminated any, “Gross, he’s double-dipping!” And the occasional, “They got more chocolate than me!”
As our food preferences have changed and we eat “clean,” we now focus on fruits and nuts. The chocolate is a treat, so the healthier options balance that out.
We always enjoy seeing how different foods taste dipped in chocolate!
KEEP IT SIMPLE
Now that I am in the season of motherhood with all teens, I can look back and see that what they enjoyed the most about holidays is the time together. Yeah, the food made some memories too, but I am so glad that I focused on intentionally creating a time for us to be together and make memories. Chocolate dipped food helped too…

This is so sweet! Our Valentine’s tradition is that Momma and Daddy DONT go on a date, but stay home with the kiddos. We make heart shaped pizzas and Buffalo chicken dip, and have our own little party. I buy special cups and plates in the holiday section of Walmart to decorate the table. This year, I left our tree up after Christmas, removed everything but the white lights and beads, and decorated it with Valentine items from Dollar Tree. They look forward to our party every year, and truth be told, I do as well. (This year, my four at home will be 13, 14, 17 and 23.)

I love that your “big” kids still enjoy this tradition. Mine do too and I secretly hope they come home when they’re moved out just for a little Valentine’s celebration…at least once. 😉 ♥
