Oh, friends. This makeover was a labor of love and determination, coupled with a bit of insanity. The summer weather hit here in full force by May and we have experienced so many humid days since. We pushed through because there was a vision and we knew that the end result would be worth all the hours and days spent outside {hanging off a ladder} to complete our farmhouse back porch makeover.

To get a little perspective, let’s take a quick look at a few before photos and then the to-do list for this back porch makeover.

Ugh. It was so disheartening to come back here.
So, what did we do for this farmhouse back porch makeover? Here was our to-do list:
- Paint the exterior clapboard
- Paint the window trim
- Paint the beams on the overhang ceiling
- Paint the porch ceiling
- Paint all of the porch trim and lattice
- Strip, stain, and waterproof the porch floorboards
- Paint the exterior doors
- Spray paint the rain barrel (I have a love-hate relationship with this rain barrel. I love the “free” water it provides for our flowers, but I hate having it here. A phase two would include re-routing the gutters and adding more gutters in order to place it on the other end of the house.)
- Repaint the shoe cubbies
- Add a rocking chair to the porch
We are absolutely thrilled with the results and I love to be back here now.
Real life means you get to see our play/work shoes in the freshly painted cubbies.
It took me many days to paint these beams by hand. I was deliberating about what this should look like, but once I really took a look at the wood ceiling, I knew that it deserved to pop with some crisp white beams.
Can’t you just picture a long farmhouse table in this space? I would love to see a table that could seat 12 people right here. There have been so many ideas floating in my mind about entertaining outdoors and a farmhouse table would be perfect.
I did my super budget-friendly tip of reusing the existing outdoor lighting by simple spray painting them. You can read all about this simple makeover idea HERE.
If you need me, friend…this is where I will be. ♥

Leigh
