After another week of working on our mud room makeover, I can say that it is really coming together! I cannot wait to feel like this space is part of our farmhouse and to maximize it’s full potential. This past week’s work was still a bit tedious, but I am starting to brainstorm and work out the storage details, along with decor options. There is a lot of the fun creative work ahead that I am looking forward to. But first, let me get you caught up.
If you missed the initial introduction to this series, you can see all the before pictures HERE of our mud room makeover. And if you need a reminder of the work done in week one, click HERE for those progress pictures.
My goal for this second week of work was to:
- Finish painting the baseboards, trim, and door
- Paint the window frames
- Clean and spray paint the light fixtures
- Wash, iron, and re-hang the curtains
- Paint and poly the brick floor
- Scrub the wood floors
I am thrilled to tell you that I accomplished all of the to-do’s on that list! Woohoo!
So, let’s take a peek:
Sometimes I tape off windows when I paint the frames, and sometimes I don’t. Either way, I am always so much happier when I do use painters tape as the clean-up is quicker.
We had the incredible blessing of two days this past week with temperatures in the 50’s and 60’s. The timing could not of been more perfect as it gave me a chance to spray paint the light fixtures outdoors and to clean the windows from the outside. {And then it snowed and became unbearably cold again!}
The brick floor. There are no words for the before. But, I’ve got some super happy words for the after! I used the same process as I did with the brick floor at our back door and the results have been just as incredible with this mud room makeover.
Using some chalk paint that I had on hand, I lightened a dark gray with some white and found the perfect middle gray that I was hoping for.
One coat {on top of two coats of primer} of the chalk paint later:
I was a bit worried during this project because I knew that I was very close to running out of paint. Again, I was super blessed to have just. enough. paint.
Three coats of the chalk paint and two coats of polyurethane later:
And now for the current after pictures of this mud room makeover. But first, a before picture because…I just have to!
It isn’t too noticeable, but I did use the same curtains that I had in here before. They are just simple white valances that add a little sweetness to the room.
After almost two weeks of not using our mud room, my family was going a bit crazy…I was too. There has been too much commotion with everyone going out of different doors, so we are back to using this room for it’s intended purpose. So what does that mean? Momma needed to get a doormat.
It’s not the prettiest rug in the world and that’s probably because…it’s a doormat. But like I said upfront, we live in the country and there is a lot of snow, dirt, and mud that ends up in our farmhouse. The doormat does cover almost half of the brick, but that’s okay…I know what prettiness is under there now.
Oh! And any dirt, snow, rain, etc that gets on the brick tiles cleans up so easily now with the two fresh coats of polyurethane.
