Many Christmas books and movies have come and gone in our home over the years. And after moving a few times, we are down to the “basics.” The ones that we continue to read and watch every year.
When my three kiddos were younger, I made most of my “entertainment” purchases at yard sales, kid’s consignment sales, and Scholastic book orders. {Ahhh, I remember those days fondly…} And when I came across a Christmas book or movie for super cheap, I would pick it up. Now that my kids have gotten older and we have moved twice in four years, our stacks have dwindled.
I’m sure there are so many more books and movies out there that we could add to our list. {And I hope you share those with me in the comments below!} But these are the ones that have stuck around and we are enjoying reading and watching this Christmas season.

One of my favorite short books is “The Penny Whistle” by B.J. Hoff. Have you ever read it? It is so heartwarming. I don’t know if you necessarily consider it a Christmas story but it is full of inspiration, hope, and love and to me that represents Christ whose birth we are about to celebrate. So that says Christmas to me.

Have you seen The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix . I think it’s really good. We’ve watched it twice . For a modern new movie it’s really cute .

I haven’t seen that one. Thanks for the suggestion!

Leigh, you just have to watch The Star with your family. Trust me, you all will love it. It’s so cute and tells the nativity story from the little donkey’s perspective. Just precious.

Gah! I forgot to include that one. Thanks for the reminder…adding it now. You are so right, it is a really cute movie!

Finally reading this! I wish I’d had more advent resources when my kids were younger– now I know for future grandchildren!
I love all the movies. Had forgotten about Annabelle’s Wish — it must have been lost in one of our moves. Such a sweet movie. The Muppets is my favorite version of A Christmas Carol. Of course, my all-time favorite Christmas movie is It’s a Wonderful Life! =)
Thank you for posting this and for all of your great resources, and for being authentic and honoring Christ in your blog/instagram. I really appreciate that and it’s the main reason I follow you. Happy New Year!!!

Kim,
Thank you so much! And you are right…these Advent resources weren’t always around, but I love that you are looking to the future with these in mind. Yes, Annabelle’s Wish, Muppet’s Christmas, and Wonderful Life are some of my faves too. Thank you also for the sweet encouragement. ♥
