The week since I posted my last progress update has flown by. And friend, I can’t believe this update that I am sharing with you today. I may go and hide under my bed while you read it because…it’s lame. But also…it’s so good. Sounds like an oxymoron, right? I promise that you’ll see why really soon.

Let’s jump in and do a quick before and after from week one:
What a difference paint makes! We love the fresh clean look of this timeless bathroom.
I had a list of things that I wanted to accomplish for week two and I feel lame saying that I didn’t get all of the to-do’s checked off my list. But…we figured so much out this past week. I’ll get to all of the decisions that we made, but let’s take a quick peek at what actually was finished.
Drumroll, please. Ha! This is a super awkward thing to share, but we finally have a toilet paper holder hanging on the wall. There was plenty of space for it, but the previous owner had a stand instead. I wanted to clear up some floor space and clutter and this was the perfect solution. And…after looking in several stores and not finding any tp holders, I was just about to order one online when I came across this one at a thrift store!
The bathroom towel situation has been out of control. Up until a few days ago, there was one ugly hook on the back of this door. That won’t work for the 5 of us…sharing one shower. Using a few hooks that I already had {and only having to buy one} we installed three hooks on the back of the door for the kids. Where are the other two going? I’ll get to that…promise!
We also needed a spot to hang a hand towel. I was so over the cheap plastic towel rods that were previously in here. Simple and functional is my goal and installing a hook {from my grandparents old home!} is the perfect solution. I love the pop of black and the fact that it is vintage, just seals the deal.
Now you’re thinking: “That’s it? All you did was hang some hooks?” In theory, yes. But we figured out the direction of the bathroom this past week. You see, I have my ideas. And then the hubby has…well, reality.
In order to open the door more fully, I was going to remove this dresser and have Mr. Little by Little Home build me a tall shelf that would be custom-made for the wall the door is on. Well, he informed me that the shelf alone would be pushing my $100 budget. He said that he would build it for me, but I wouldn’t have any budget for…say, baskets to put on the shelf.
I’ll give you one guess as to what I said. Here’s a little hint:
I kindly declined because I couldn’t spare the entire budget for one shelf. We’ve decided to keep the dresser. It is a great storage solution and I am just going to work around it.
This did throw my towel hook plan off though. I had planned to hang two more hooks on the wall where the dresser presently is. My solution is to possibly hang them on the wall in between the window and shower…next week though.
Now, on to the shower curtain dilemma. I told you in the very first post that I didn’t like how short the shower curtain was. The curtain rod is hung extremely high and due to the shower tile, it cannot be lowered. I’ve done some research and it seems that short shower curtains are standard. It’s mostly to reduce moisture being caught on the ground and creating mold. I don’t have little kids splashing water around anymore, so I’m not worried about that.
I was tempted to ignore the full-length shower curtain vision that I have, but I just don’t want to. {A few solutions are swirling in my mind though.} Aren’t there longer shower curtains out there? Yes. But they’re expensive and/or ugly.
Last week I went and purchased a fun shower curtain from Target that grabbed my eye {on many occasions}. I hung it up and as much as I love the pattern, it just didn’t feel right in this vintage bathroom.
I also grabbed a flat twin sheet that had the right green color from the shower tile in it. Since the tile peeks out a little on both sides, I’ve decided not to ignore it and work with the green instead. And although, the length of the sheet would work {I would have to hem it} something just felt off.
I love pops of color, but I think that a simple, solid, and classic look is needed for the shower curtain. I can add touches of color elsewhere in the room.
I also grabbed a new white shower curtain that has a warm texture to it. The current thought is to try and use that and add length to it. I do have one more idea up my sleeve and plan to try that out soon too.
So, how much did I spend this past week:
1 hook: $2.97
toilet paper holder: $2.99
Let’s check out the budget spent so far:
Week One: $0
Week Two: $5.96
There you have it. A bathroom makeover update that doesn’t look too exciting, but we took some great strides with the overall direction of this project. I have a few plans for the coming week that will hopefully look like we did a lot more than this week. Here’s a little clue: there will be shelves in this bathroom, just not behind the door.
xo,
Leigh
