Room makeovers don’t have to break the bank…or even be a room! Come watch how I give our hallway and staircase a makeover for under $100!
One month and $100…that’s what I’ll be using for our hallway and staircase makeover. I am so excited to transform this area in our home. Why? Well, it is literally in the center of our home. No one comes or goes without seeing it…even our mail carrier can take a peek in every single day.
And while I am grateful that before our home was placed on the market last year, the previous owners had it painted, but at this point, I am so over this tan. Literally every single room {oh, wait, minus our kitchen and full bathroom} was/is this exact same tan color. So while it isn’t a bad paint color, it’s just so boring to live with for over a year.
I’ve been slowly working my way through our home and painting each room. It is now time to tackle our hallway and staircase makeover.
BEFORE
No, it isn’t terrible. Just blah. And I worked so hard to sand all of these floors and by giving this space a makeover it will really bring the home’s natural beauty out. {Missed the process of sanding the floors in most our house in just one week? Click HERE for the before and after photos.}
THE PLAN
Once the walls, doors, and trim have received fresh coats of paint, the fun can begin!
I have an idea for this staircase that involves some color and pulling the house together more cohesively. Will it work? I have no idea, but I sure do hope so.
You will also be seeing much more personality on these walls as well. The bareness of them is pretty sad looking and I cannot wait to add “us” to this hallway and staircase makeover. Quite literally, you will see us! 😉
Oh, coats. They are an absolute necessity at this time of the year. After trying various options out, we settled on building a coat rack on this wall. It and this bench will be getting a makeover. And my mind is swirling with some possible ideas for this wall as well.
{I shared the makeover of our entryway directly to the right of our current coat rack…click HERE to see it!}
Edited to add: this light! I completely forgot to photograph the lonely little light fixture in our hallway. It is not an original piece of the house and lacks all charm, so it will be replaced.
Are my plans a little vague? If so, don’t hold it against me because it isn’t on purpose. This is pretty much how I begin every $100 Room Challenge: with some possibilities in mind and then I wait for inspiration and the budget to lead me through it. I cannot wait for this hallway and staircase makeover to finally reflect our family.
Before I go get my paint brush out, I wanted to give a thank you to Erin at Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry for hosting this $100 Room Challenge. Those floors turned out beautiful! I can wait to see what you do with the rest of this space

I see the stair runners the same color green as your cabinets (or front door). Walls white-ish, new runner rug. Maybe a little free standing closet for the coats? And of course family pictures on the walls. Am I close?!?!?! 😁

I love that you begin with a vague idea and let the project/$$ lead you. I bet when you are done, you will let the mail man see all it’s glory, lol. Am looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with this space.

A true blank slate to work with. I don’t have set things in mind either when I start. Kind of a rough idea then I let the process take me a long for the ride.
I know you will do a fabulous job. Now I am going to check out what you have done in the past on your other challenges.
