Make your own delicious homemade sugar free applesauce with 3 simple ingredients. This easy recipe is perfect for a snack or add it to a home-cooked meal.
Whether it’s apple season or not, homemade sugar free applesauce can be made in as little as 30 minutes. The taste of fresh applesauce is amazing and the simplicity of a sugar free recipe can’t be beat.
I recently made a trip out to a local farmer’s market to stock up on bulk spices. While there, I grabbed some fresh produce and came across a box of apple seconds for $5. Instantly, homemade applesauce came to mind and I brought those apples home with me.

If you aren’t familiar with the term “seconds,” it simply means: not the very best. When it comes to apples, these would be ones that apple pickers or grocery stores would not want. But when it comes to baking, these are perfect. The price is usually extremely low and it doesn’t matter what the apple looks like for a baked good. Only the taste matters.
Since I focus on a no to very low processed sugar intake for my family, I love when a recipe has it’s own natural sweetness. Apples are perfect for this and I wanted to share the process and recipe with you!
SUGAR FREE APPLESAUCE INGREDIENTS
3 pounds of apples {you can choose which kind of apple…some will be sweeter than others}
1 cup water
1/4 tsp cinnamon

PEEL APPLES
This part is often my favorite because I enjoy seeing how long I can make the peel go before it rips. Am I the only one or do you do this too?
CORE AND SLICE APPLES
To speed this step along, I do both at the same time. Just watch for any remaining peels or center sections that remain. You’ll want to cut those off or they’ll end up in your final applesauce.
APPLES, WATER, & CINNAMON
Place the cored and sliced apples into a pot. Pour the 1 cup of water in. We prefer using our Berkey water for cooking and baking. {Click HERE for info on our Berkey water filter.}
Sprinkle the 1/4 tsp of cinnamon on top.
PLACE ON STOVETOP
Bring the water to a boil and reduce heat to simmer.
Cover and allow to simmer for 8-10 minutes or until apples are tender. Add more water if necessary.
Stir the apples occasionally so they all cook evenly.

REMOVE FROM HEAT
Once the apples are tender, remove the pot from the heat. Allow it too cool for a few minutes. Then, using an immersion blender, puree the apples. Be sure to keep the immersion blender low in the pot so that no hot apples splash out.
ENJOY!
Your homemade sugar free applesauce can be served warm or chilled. Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 7-10 days. It can also be stored in a freezer and thawed for future use. Be sure to store in freezer-appropriate containers.

We enjoy our applesauce the most when it is fresh and warm. But it’s also been fun to freeze some in plastic containers to enjoy in a few months.
Homemade applesauce is one of the easiest healthy snacks that can be made. I often forget how delicious it is and am always glad when we make it. My kids were thrilled when I came home with that box of apple seconds…they knew right away it was for applesauce!
