A few months ago, I made over our master bedroom. Remember that? I love this room now and I honestly didn’t have any plans besides painting the ceiling, trim, and walls. But, as I tend to do…my plans grew. And that included giving our two master bedroom vintage dressers a makeover. You’ll see soon how this transformed the entire room.
Let’s take a quick peek at the two dressers. The first one was recently passed on to me from a friend of my mom’s. And the second, I have had for our entire marriage. It took part in an unfortunate project that involved spray paint many years ago. Let’s not dwell on my past mistakes, okay?
I didn’t have to prime the dressers, but I really wanted to avoid and bleed through or yellowing due to painting a light color over these very dark browns. So, two coats of BIN primer later and I was ready to create what has become my favorite color.
My base color is Amy Howard at Home One Step Paint in Paige Blue. I had recently painted all the walls in here Sherwin-Williams Pure White and this base color wasn’t enough contrast for me. I dug around in my paint stash and found Amy Howard at Home One Step Paint in American Dream. Using the very scientific method of “drizzles,” my husband slowly added one drizzle at a time and stirred. It took 4 drizzles to get the pretty shade of a robin’s egg blue that I was hoping for.
It only took 2 coats of the Amy Howard at Home One Step Paint to achieve a beautifully full coverage. I didn’t want to worry about putting drink glasses on top of the dressers, so I quickly added 2 coats of polycrylic to the top of both dressers.
This project only took 1 day to complete and most of that time was spent away from the dressers as the paint dried. Easy-peasy and our master bedroom vintage dresser makeover was complete. The dressers really pulled together and I love the little pop of color in an otherwise neutral bedroom.
I keep saying it friends, but don’t pass up a piece of furniture because it’s ugly when you first look at it. Instead, see beyond that and look at the lines and shape. Remember my dining room sideboard dresser and family room dresser? Along with these 2 master bedroom vintage dresser makeover, please tell me that I have convinced you on this. What are you waiting for? Grab that paint brush and go for it!

Leigh
