As the daylight hours diminish and the air grows more bitter, adding late fall cozy homemaking helps us and our guests enjoy the time in our home. And it only takes a few minutes to add some simple touches.
November passes by in a blur and before we know it: bang! It’s Thanksgiving. But I still wanted to take the time to add some late fall cozy homemaking before the flurry of Christmas begins. None of it took long. Most of it just required intentionality on my part.

PAINT TOUCH-UPS
I’ll be honest. This one has had me dragging my feet. These paint cans have been sitting out for longer than I care to admit. But, I finally took the time to put the last coats of paint on the window frames and radiators in our master bedroom. {Click HERE for that bedroom makeover!}
The baseboard in our hallway also needed a touch-up after becoming splattered with floor polyurethane. {Click HERE for this hallway makeover and HERE for how to refinish hardwood floors.}
COAT CLOSET CLEAN-OUT
This coat closet became a dumping ground during the summer and early fall.
But now that winter is upon us, we need quick and easy access to all our cold weather gear. It only took 15 minutes and now we are more organized. {Click HERE for the closet makeover and HERE for how to organize for winter.}
HALF BATHROOM ADDITIONS
We were in desperate need of new hand towels in our half bathroom. I was also running low on decent ones for when guests were over. I change our bathroom hand towels every day, so I tossed the old ones and bought almost a week’s worth. And even though it’s just a tan towel, there is a late fall cozy homemaking feel that has been added to our half bathroom with brand new towels. {Click HERE for the makeover of this room and HERE for the dresser into a vanity DIY.}
Speaking of our half bathroom…and this feels a little silly to share. But, in our home, we don’t lock bathroom doors. If a door is closed, we assume someone is in there and don’t walk in. It’s just always been our “rule.” But in this house, our half bathroom doesn’t even have an option of a lock. In an effort to help our guests feel more comfortable, I had James add a simple latch hook. I just know that I feel more “safe” in a guest’s bathroom with a working lock, so it felt like the right thing to extend to our guests as well.
POT HOLDER HOOKS
I’m not really sure what took me so long to do this, but I finally have pot holder hooks inside a cabinet door. This idea came out of frustration with these always disappearing in different drawers. Everything having a place adds a sense of calmness to my heart…even potholders!
CORNER PLANT STAND
My kids and I happened to come across a moving sale in a neighborhood that we never go to. I decided to take a quick peek and the moment I saw this little table, my heart went pitter-patter. There were a few different options floating around in my head, but I decided on a plant stand. {Click HERE for our dining room makeover.}
The twisty legs are my favorite and I think the pilea plant is quite happy here.
Often, the little things add up to a contented heart for my home. And then there are the finishing touches that I put off for too long and wonder why I do that to myself. Either way, this late fall cozy homemaking has us settling in for the cold months ahead and feeling quite okay with that.
Have you done any last minute homemaking before gearing up for the holidays?

We have the same bathroom rule at our house, glad we aren’t the only one! When we built our house, I think the hardware guy thought it was odd when I told him we didn’t want locking bathroom doors! Maybe it was from memories of my son locking the bathroom door from the inside when he was little and then coming out and shutting the door, I had to disassemble the door knob to get it open! I didn’t think about at least putting a lock on the half bathroom😬. Love your little plant stand, and new towels make me happy too! I also dread paint touch ups and have a lot to do!
