All winter long, our living room throw blankets have been, well…thrown all over. One day, I had enough and installed throw blanket hooks to add some order to our living room.

LIVING ROOM CORNER BEFORE
Most of the time, our throw blankets end up tossed on the back of our couch. And that had been working for us, but I just knew it could be better. That got me thinking about how the dead space of this corner could be transformed and used better. My goal is that our home works for our family. And so, I saw this as a challenge.

COZY LIVING ROOM CORNER
My initial idea was simply to add some throw blanket hooks. I saw the problem and came up with a solution. Well, then one thing led to another and ta-da! A cozy and functional corner in our living room…mostly done on a budget.
I am excited to share the easy way that I solved a styling issue with a bit of practicality. Did it need any extra decor? No. But this was the fun part as one step led to another.
THROW BLANKET HOOKS
I settled on a simple peg rack. It came with six hooks, which was too long. I only wanted it to fit in the space between the corner wall and the edge of our couch. James easily cut off one hook and drilled a new hole for that end. Five hooks is now the perfect length for the space in our living room.
My thought was for this throw blanket hook to blend in with the wall. It came with a natural wood tone, which looked fine {and I used it like that in our coat closet!} but I didn’t want to add another wood tone to our living room. Two coats of primer and two coats of wall paint and mission accomplished as it is now the same color as our walls. {Behr Swiss Coffee in flat}

THRIFTED ARTWORK
My go-to motto is: functional beauty. The throw blanket hooks accomplished the functional part by giving us a place to hang each blanket when it’s not in use. But this corner needed a little beauty too. Because…why not?
This part of the project was extremely budget-friendly because I used thrifted frames and artwork that I already had on hand. First, the wood frames were given a fresh look with gel stain. {One coat of Antique Walnut, followed by one coat of Nutmeg.} The artwork is simply two pages torn out of an old art book. {Thrifting tip: always pick up wood frames for a good price and grab any art books you come across. You never know when they’ll come in handy for a project.}
{I did a similar project with another gel stained frame and also in our kitchen artwork.}

NEW END TABLE
After my youngest’s bedroom makeover, I had an extra stool. It’s a sweet piece of furniture that came from my grandparents home. Previously, it was a nightstand in my daughter’s bedroom at our farmhouse. It then became my son’s nightstand. Now it’s an end table in our living room.
You may notice two “shelves” below the stool seat. This was easily made by wrapping jute twine around the braces on either side. My kids both used it to hold books next to their beds. And now that I’m looking at it empty, I think I need to add some books to it here.
FLOOR LAMP CHANGE
Did you notice something else new? This took the bulk of my budget when I decided to change out the floor lamp. After selling the original light that I had here, I was able to get this new one for a great price.
Why are floor lamps so expensive? I have been looking on our local online marketplace for months and nothing good ever showed up for sale. But by selling the one I had here and rolling that into one that fit my style a little better, it wasn’t as big of an expense.
I can see this floor lamp being here for a long time. The light it emits is perfect to add a cozy vibe and is ideal for reading. The top swivels so it can be moved easily over the couch or pushed aside into the corner.
After initially setting up our living room when we first moved in, I have mostly left it as is. Seasonally, I have decorated, but that’s been about it. Now that I’ve worked my way through most of the house, I am coming back around to our living room. I’ve got some other fun projects lined up to share with you for this room, so be sure to pop back over here to see those.

It’s beginning to feel cozy in here now and I love that there is a place for our throw blankets. To be honest, we’ll see how well it goes with everyone hanging them back up here. Even if they don’t, that’s okay with me because I know that there is a spot that I can easily pick each up and place them. Kind of like the old saying: a place for everything and everything in it’s place, to which I would add “hopefully” in it’s place.

Leigh, you’re totally forgiven on selling your Leigh Lamp! 😉 That corner is crazy good and now my wheels are spinning on possibilities over here. Your corner turned out beautiful & functional. Wouldn’t seasonal throws be awesome in the fall and winter! Love it!

Why didn’t I think of that?😃🤔 We can’t deny it, there are days, evenings and nights that we need our Blankeys. No more running upstairs to get it. Neat idea, Leigh and…….it’s not unattractive.
