Yesterday marked a little victory in our home: I unpacked the last box {on our first floor}! Everything has a place now. Woohoo! And…the hubby finished up his part of a super secret project that has been in the works since our closing date. {I cannot wait to show you…another week or so and it will be done!} In the meantime, I’ve been working towards adding the cozy factor to our home with…new vintage looking rugs!
This house has had an echo since day one and feels a bit like a “our very first home” at times. That is mostly because “someone” sold a lot of furniture {including rugs} before we moved from our farmhouse. In my defense, I have had a different vision for our home that I couldn’t quite put my fingers on until…I did some rug shopping!

How did I do that? I simply spent some time online just throwing any rug that I liked into my online shopping cart. Once I had exhausted {my brain} and the website, I looked at my shopping cart. I noticed two distinct themes: one was very plain, solid, and definitely neutral AND the other was moody, cozy, and a little bold {for me}.
That was the point when I had to decide which direction I was going to take. Safe. Or risky. I realized that I was craving deep color tones. These would definitely make a statement. And that is when I deleted all of the “safe” options from my shopping cart and began narrowing down what was left.
And I fell in love with 3 rug patterns. I just couldn’t decide. But then I realized that I had 3 areas that I wanted to add rugs to. And…the 3 rugs that I couldn’t choose between…wait for it…all “matched.” At that point, I just needed to decide which one to place in each room. {I’ll share why each rug ended up in each room soon.}
Let’s take a peek now…into our living room and the first of the vintage looking rugs.
This rug felt pretty “safe” to order as the tones are more muted and traditional in color. It felt like the right choice for our living room. {Click HERE for this rug…I have the 8×10}
And yes, we currently only have a loveseat to sit on in our living room. I promise that a full-size couch is on the way {eeeekkk…I cannot wait!} but until then, this rug really helps to cozy up the space for a family movie night.
And I just had to add our crazy pup into a photo. Meet Dixie. Our 7 year old jack russell terrier who is quite naughty…and then nice…all in the same minute.

Now for the boldest rug in our home. I love it. I really do. But it scared me a bit to order it…and that is why it’s in our dining room. I figured a large piece of furniture {our dining room table} would downplay the moody colors. {Click HERE for this rug…I have the 8×10 of this vintage looking rug.}
I actually really like how this rug looks bold or muted…depending upon which angle you look at it. It’s definitely a moody vintage looking rug.
This cabinet adds a little pop of sophisticated color to the space.

Our kitchen faces a bit south, so the natural light isn’t as bright in here as it is in our living and dining rooms. That is why I opted for a lighter rug, but still with the same little pop of contrast and vintage looking rug vibe to carry over from the other rooms. {Click HERE for this rug…I have the 2’6″ x 8′ runner.}
Can I tell you that I am really looking forward to updating this room? Of course, a full reno would be my ideal. But that may not happen for a while {or ever}. So, what’s a DIY girl to do? I’ll give you one guess? {A little clue HERE.}
Remember when I told you that we don’t have a dishwasher? {I discussed that HERE.} For now, we hand wash everything and this wooden dish rack and drying mat make the job much easier.
We are getting there…little by little…and I love how these rugs have increased the cozy factor of our home.
