Our one year house anniversary is…TODAY! Time flies when you’re having fun…or renovating a home!
To commemorate one year since we bought our 1915 home, I thought it would be fun to do a quick before and after of the spaces we have worked on. It’s been a whirlwind of a year for our family with this house, but also life in general is full with two teens and a tween.
Moving last year was not even on our radar until suddenly it was. {Click HERE for that announcement.} It was hard and easy all at the same time. There were hurdles that’s for sure. But it has been completely worth it. We were asked often why we would sell the farmhouse that we were so invested in. It all came down to one word and you can read about that HERE.
When all was said and done, on October 29, 2018, we sold our farmhouse in the country and purchased our dutch colonial style 1915 home in the suburbs. It was truly a bittersweet day. {I shared my thoughts on that day HERE.} We hit the ground running on day one and began demo immediately. You can read about our crazy first few days HERE.
Okay, so this isn’t the most attractive photo of me, but I wanted to share because…he is super sweet.
Now let’s get to it: all those fun before and after photos!
The front entryway was way too small for our family and so we opened it up. {Click HERE for the entire makeover.}
This fireplace was straight out of the Middle Ages until…well, I got a hold of it. Ha! {Click HERE for the fireplace makeover and HERE for our new mantel.}
I sanded the hardwood floors in our entire downstairs prior to us moving in. Yes, that was a huge project. But I am so glad that it’s done…and it was totally worth it. {Click HERE for this massive project details.}
We converted an “office” on our first floor into a half-bath and laundry room. {Click HERE for that initial makeover. And HERE for the latest pics.}
The dining room went through it’s fair share of changes in the year since we’ve moved in.
But this is where it has settled and I love it! {Click HERE for all the phases.}
By far, our kitchen has seen the biggest makeover. I hardly even recognize it as the same room anymore.

Right off our kitchen is the children’s homeschool nook.
It has been transformed into an area that works as a wonderful home base to our studies. {Interested in homeschool info? Click HERE.}
I shared the initial nook makeover right HERE.
As the summer came to an end, my patience with our back porch ended too. And so, over the course of a few days, I gave it a makeover.
{ClickHERE for the full tour…it’s a good one!}
One of the rooms that caused me to instantly fall in love with our home is our full bathroom. Specifically, the floors and the etched glass window caught my eye and I just knew: we had to live here.
This entire room makeover was done with a $100 budget and I shared all about it HERE.
I’ve got one more for ya and it’s a big one. I mean: huge! James spent most of his weekends and evenings transforming an open room into a cozy bedroom for our daughter.
This one has been more than a makeover. It was a transformation. It’s an amazing space now. Click HERE for the entire bedroom tour.
Spoiler alert: I wanna move in!
Alright, the big question of the day: Do I miss our farmhouse?
Not really. I can get sentimental about the memories we have from our 3 1/2 years there. But I can look back now and see that God had us there for a season. And when that season ended, he brought us to the best place for this new season in life.
I am so content living where we are right now. Is it perfect? No. But I’ve learned so much about grace. And extending it a little more each day.
This home and location is perfect for our family right now. So that means we fully embrace where we are and continue to make this house our home.
Thank you for following along and encouraging us through this past year. We have come a long way and for that I am so thankful. And we are looking expectantly at the future, the road ahead, and all the fun projects, room makeovers and life to live in the year ahead.
