This blog post. It’s almost 4 years in the making. Which, if you were counting, is longer than I’ve even been blogging. So why “almost” 4 years? Well, before we moved states, I sold at least half of what we owned. And that included our sofa. Now, in my defense: it had been a clearance room sofa that we purchased as newlyweds. We had a good run with that plaid couch but it was not worth loading into a U-Haul and driving 4 hours. And then, due to the amount of work needed on our farmhouse, we never quite found a little give in the budget for a sofa.

Until…we sold our farmhouse and settled into a smaller home. And literally the day after we moved in here, I was in the store placing my order for our new living room sofa. So, what did we settle on and why?
I stepped out of my comfort zone here and ordered our “forever” sofa. No more saggy cushions in just a few years. This one is going to be here for a while.
Can I introduce you to the newest {and biggest} member of our family? This is our Pottery Barn York Roll Arm Slipcovered Sofa. Try and say that three times in a row…
It felt like an overwhelming decision in the beginning, but after spending time in their local store and sitting on each sofa, I knew which one was my favorite. Mostly because there were a few things that I was looking for:
A deep seat. This one…wow! The cushion is pretty much the size of a twin mattress when all of the pillows are removed.
It needed to be long. Like, “grand” long and so I settled on the Grand Sofa that is 97.5″ long.
And did you catch the bench cushion? I’ve seen it in a few photos and I just love the casual feel that it adds to a room. Comfy, cozy, and casual are my current go to words. The bench cushion allows more people to sit on it. Think about it. If you are at a friends house and they have 2 cushions, how many people sit on the sofa? 2. And if they have 3 cushions? 3 people. I want family and friends to feel free to pile onto this sofa.
Slipcovered. I wanted a neutral sofa that I could change out rugs and decor without having to “match” a sofa color or pattern. And a slipcover can be changed also…and more importantly: washed.

And because I didn’t want to be hyper-neurotic about getting it dirty the first week we’ve owned it, I slipped a matching fleece blanket over the bench cushion. {Thank you to my SIL for the great suggestion!}
It took a little over 2 months from the time I ordered our Pottery Barn York Roll Arm Slipcovered Sofa until it finally arrived. But let me tell ya…delivery day was a very happy day.
We love this sofa and are looking forward to all of the memories that it will be a part of here in our home as we welcome family and friends in…and have plenty of family nights right here too.

It was my dream furniture 15 years ago and it still is. But it’s not slipcovered and beyond a good clean. You’ll love your new sofa & look forward to hearing your thoughts on it in the future. Enjoy your beautiful new furniture.

What a sofa! It looks so cozy and comfortable, and also like an excellent napping spot! I totally understand sofa love. After going through the the hand me down phase, followed by the new but cheap quality furniture phase, I fell in love with a sofa that was on the showroom floor at a small town furniture store. It was a high quality American made sofa in a pretty buttery creamy wide wale rib chenille fabric and not only was it gorgeous, it was soooo comfortable! No washable slipcovers, but I have almost always kept a king size quilt on it that coordinates, and have found that by tucking it in where the seat meets the back with heavy duty cardboard tubes (tension shower rods or curtain rods also work), it stays in place pretty well, only needing a little adjusting, mostly after someone naps on it (mostly me and my teenage daughter). We have had it for ten years, and it still looks great and is comfortable. I believe good quality upholstered furniture is well worth the investment!

I have to ask (if you are still monitoring the comments here). How is it now? I am asking because, I purchased a York sofa with sunbrella white fabric, bench seat in October 2022. I would say 8 months in I was already concerned with seat imprints/sagging.
Now, 14 months later I can’t wait to get rid of it. What a beautiful waste. I will say, had I done more research I’d be in a better place. I also have a husband that is 6’3”, 140 and when he’s off work he’s on the couch for 4-6 hours.
