A painted dresser can be a quick DIY that will change the feel of any room.
PAINTED DRESSERS HAVE MY HEART!
I have a thing for dressers. Confession: I have at least one painted dresser in every room of my house. Why painted? Mostly because I look for the “cheap” ones with great quality. And those often, well, are the ones that need a little extra TLC. Painting them is the best solution.

Our new neighborhood had a yard sale this year and I was so excited about the possibilities out there. In between driving kids to baseball, I drove up and down the streets. Just when I was about to give up on my hope of finding a dresser, I stumbled upon not one, but TWO! At the same house!
Honestly, I didn’t know what I was going to do with two of them, but one was definitely going in our living room as a tv stand. Based upon the lines of the dresser, I chose this one. Setting myself up in our backyard, I decided upon the vision of what I was looking for. I had never done a painted and wood tone dresser, but I was excited about the outcome.
TV STAND/PAINTED DRESSER BEFORE
Always remove the drawers for a painted dresser project.
And give it a thorough cleaning.
THE PAINT!
I used Country Chic Paint for my “new” painted dresser. Why? Because I had plenty left over from our bathroom vanity dresser {click HERE for those pics} and I loved how that one turned out!
The color is liquorice and it’s the perfect pure black.
It took three coats, but I wanted a very full coverage of the paint on this dresser. This took no time to do at all as the Country Chic Paint applies easily and dries extremely fast.
After letting the paint cure for a day, I added a top coat to seal the it on the dresser. Again, I used what I already had on hand: Amy Howard at Home Wax.
PAINTED DRESSER AFTER
The dresser was now ready to be moved inside and the drawers slid back in. Oh and for the tv to be all set up as well as the drawers to be filled with all kinds of tv-related items.
I love how the paint and wood tone look turned out on this dresser. And the black was a perfect choice as the tv just kinda blends in with it.
One step closer to the functional beauty that I’ve been working on in our living room. After adding a rug, couch, and painting the fireplace, this room really needed a little something with character. This painted dresser completely fits the look that I’ve been going for.
What do you think? Did taking the risk of the two tone look pay off? Have you ever painted a dresser? Are you as obsessed with dressers as me? If so, it’s okay…this is a safe space to admit it.

I have a dresser. I have the chalk paint. How exactly do I apply the wax and how much is needed? I’m getting my courage up. It’s a painted white dresser I want to make a deep blue.

You can do it! I apply wax using a clean old undershirt or something similar. You want something that doesn’t have lint and is soft, so old undershirts are my go to! Send me pics when you get done with your project. ♥

And of course, I LOVE how this black looks with wood. {{all the heart eyes}}

And thank you, Angie! I love this wood tone too. The top was too messed up to leave as is, but the drawers are in great shape.
