The hardest part about painting a piano is deciding to actually do it. In my home, the piano was fine, but now that I painted our vintage upright piano, it looks amazing.
Remember the story about how this piano found its way to our home? {If not, click HERE.} Ever since, music has been playing from it most days.
I instantly loved the few soft curves in the midst of all the straight lines. And I tried to love it in its natural wood tone. I really did. I made it an entire 18 months before I took a paintbrush to it.

PAINTED PIANO BEFORE
The possible heat damage from a previous owner was something I was trying to overlook. But then this spring, due to an innocent accident, an 8 inch wide watermark on the top sealed the deal when it came to deciding on a painted piano.

The big question became: what color do I paint this beauty? Are you ready to see?
It’s called Mollie Yellow from Amy Howard at Home! For some reason, I ‘ve had a yellow color in mind for quite some time. And this one was the perfect shade of an unexpected color, but also neutral enough for my home. {Click HERE for the paint I used.}
PAINTED PIANO DURING
It took 3 coats of paint for the dark wood to be fully covered. (The 16oz. container was plenty!) This is what it looked like after 1 coat of paint.
{I also added one coat of wax to protect the paint from the constant use it will see in my home. Click HERE for the wax I used.}

PAINTED PIANO AFTER
Are you ready for the after? I cannot wait to show you because…I love it!
This yellow is so cheerful and it lightens up this corner so much! {I didn’t realize how dark it was until…it was light!}
It felt a bit daring to use a color that I’ve not used in this house, but I am so happy that I went for it!

I know that many {including my family!} assumed I would paint this piano green since there are many accents of that color in my home. Even though I love green, it felt like I needed to add another color into my home. This yellow compliments the green, but also breaks up the color theme a bit. Plus, it’s fun to add an unexpected twist to my home!
