Once I thought outside the box when it came to a larger pot, this pilea plant re-potting was so simple. Come see a budget-friendly solution that anyone can do!
About a year ago, I picked up a sweet little pilea plant at Trader Joe’s. It’s been my “happy plant” because it looks like it’s always in a good mood. And apparently it is doing quite well in our living room because it has outgrown the pot I purchased it in.

Since it is the off-season for planting, finding a bigger pot has been a challenge. Then one day, I came up with an idea for my pilea plant re-potting as I wandered the kitchen aisle of Home Goods. What if I used just any old ceramic jar? Specifically, one meant to sit on a kitchen counter and hold large utensils…
It could work!
Well, it had to because it needed more room to grow…
PILEA PLANT RE-POTTED
I decided to keep it in the same location as before. The bigger “pot” helps hide the ugly wires behind our tv, so it’s a win-win.
I do like how the green of both plants pull the eye across the room.
Speaking of that other plant. It’s a pothos and I had been “rooting” quite a few clippings for way too long. I decided to combine them all into one giant {actual real} pot earlier this year.
LATEST PROJECT: LIVING ROOM MAKEOVER
This week is a homeschool break for my kids…and me too! I use our weeks off as a project week for myself and I am so excited to begin painting our living room. There are some plans and ideas swirling around in my mind, but first I need to tackle these walls. {Click HERE for my homeschool posts.}
Tying this room into the rest of our home by painting it the same color is very exciting for me. These walls have been fine. But a fresh coat of paint makes everything look better. {It will be the same color as our hallway and staircase that I just made over…click HERE for that project.}
{This fireplace makeover was a major change too. Click HERE if you missed the super ugly before pics.}
The reason for this pilea plant re-potting was to give it room to grow bigger. This type of plant also produces “babies,” so I am hoping it will now have the space to do that as well. All totally worth the extra browsing in the kitchen aisle…and the $10!
