Room makeovers are a lot of fun. But often, simple home decor touches can be just as inspirational.
It’s been a wonderful first fall in our home and I am thoroughly enjoying making it cozy for my family. Over the past week, I’ve made just some simple home decor changes. Nothing overwhelming. But often the “little things” are the ones our families really appreciate.

LAST TOUCHES OF FALL
My youngest kiddo asked me when I was going to decorate for Thanksgiving. After my deer in headlights look at him, I explained that I don’t have “Thanksgiving” decor. Rather, I decorate for fall and that carries through November. He looked a bit disappointed. But then I remembered that I did have one thing! And guess what? I even knew exactly where it was.
I secretly went on a reconnaissance mission and Mr. Turkey has the place of honor on our mantel. It took only moments for my kiddo to find it and he instantly smiled!
Years ago, when my kids were younger and life was simpler, quieter, and we were home most of the time, I did all kinds of craft projects. We celebrated every little holiday and one thing that we always incorporated was some way of sharing our thankfulness. Apparently it was still a wanted activity in our home because my daughter created a thankful tree for our family!
Just a few simple branches from our yard. But then she went and hand cut out a ton of leaves for us. I’ll tell ya, I won the jackpot with that girl.
PAINTED FURNITURE CHANGE
You all might already know about my love {err, obsession} with dressers. Well, earlier this fall, we did a dresser switcheroo and this little one was the perfect solution to a tiny wall in between our kitchen and school nook. It fit perfectly, but it was white and blended in with the wall. I discovered the most perfect and complimentary green ever {Bayberry by Fusion Mineral Paint} and I about embarrassed myself in front of my family with my glee over this change.
I also pulled out this vintage painting that I bought at an estate sale a few months ago. The green in the painting is absolutely perfect with this dresser…and the kitchen!
I love how this Bayberry color pops in the space, but also draws out the green from our cabinets. {click HERE for Fusion}
GETTING COZY
I’ve noticed the little table nook in our living room is often occupied. This day, it was a spot to work through some Algebra problems. My youngest and I have also often been found here reading through his history lesson.
And then, just a few days ago, I did just a small change in our master bedroom that has been perfect for me. In case you didn’t know, we have not given that room a makeover yet and it doubles as my husband’s home office. But I recently moved my chair up to the room. It had been in a corner until I, well, changed corners. This one may not be the ideal spot for an interior designer. That’s okay. Because I live here and I slid it right up under a window where I can look outside and use the natural sunlight as I do my devotions in the morning.
I also repurposed an old crate that holds all of my current and “for the future” reading material. It just feels more like me to be nestled under a windowsill.
WINTER IS COMING
Ummm…guess what’s happened three times in the past week? It has snowed! I’m not quite mentally prepared for that. But, this past weekend, James and the boys worked on getting the last of our storm windows in. Phew! They accomplished that just in time. Now we can stay cozier and warmer inside.
We also enjoyed a fun open house in our home on Sunday afternoon. As another gesture of thank you and “you are appreciated,” we invited over all the people {and their families} who helped us move. It was exactly one year that day since we moved and it just felt right to spend it opening our home up. There was a lot of chili, kids running around, and laughter.
Thank you for taking a peek in at some little, but also impactful changes we have made in our home recently. I hope it encourages you to remember that simple home decor touches are just as meaningful.

I love this and it’s doable on any budget! I recently shopped my house for items and moved a few things to different rooms–it’s like buying new things without actually spending $! =) I really appreciate your ideas– all your projects seem affordable and doable–with a little elbow grease!)

The green dresser is so pretty! I am a total green girl, and love how it looks with with the white and brown tones, so calming and nature inspired! I am also a sucker for vintage artwork, it looks perfect with the dresser. Also, thank you for showing the picture of your chair by the window. We are building and I have been looking at pictures of window trim and that is pretty much exactly what I had in mind! Your home is truly an inspiration. I would describe my style as a mix of craftsman, cottage farmhouse and traditional, and I want my new home to have a cozy vintage feel. Thanks for sharing, and Happy Thanksgiving!
