With spring comes green and new growth. Along with some new indoor plants, we have some fun things planted outside as well. Just call me a plant lady this spring!
INDOOR PEPEROMIA
There was still snow on the ground when I took a peek at the plant aisle in Home Depot. {Who am I kidding…we had snow flurries just 3 weeks ago!} To be honest, I have tried some of the trendier plants, or at least have thought about it. Some have died. Others were given away. And then some never made it to my home because I realized they weren’t really my type of plant.
I seem to enjoy indoor plants that are a bit more whimsical. And so, when I came across these peperomia plants, I immediately thought they were too fun not to bring home.
A quick trip into The Christmas Tree Shoppe and I came home with two white planters so that I could transfer the peperomia out of their plastic containers.
Using a small handful of stones from the Dollar Tree and a few scoops of potting soil, my two new peperomia’s looked like I spent way more than the $10 each on all the supplies.

By using a neutral planter, these can easily be moved and will fit into any room and space.

CHRISTMAS TREE CACTUS
Over the past few years, I have become drawn to the Christmas cactus plants that I have seen in my friend’s homes. There’s are always very mature, big, and a little crazy in a super fun way. My budget won’t allow for a big Christmas cactus and so, when I came across a few small ones in my local grocery store, I picked up a few. My goal is to keep them all in one large planter and let them grow together into one plant and spill out and over.
The hard part of that plan is finding a large pot that fit my criteria: big, cheap, and not ugly. I found one that fit the first two, but not the last. But that one is the easy one to fix. Enter spray paint!
A few coats of a gold/brass spray paint later and it is a neutral planter that can fit into any room in my home.
I used the same process for this as I did with the peperomia, I just needed more. A few handfuls of stones to aid in drainage and quite a few scoops of potting soil later…

CHALK LETTERING
Before we step outside, I wanted to share the chalkboard canvas that my daughter updated for the spring.
This sits right inside our front entryway and you can see the entire makeover HERE and then a fun update HERE.
OUTSIDE GARDENING
My daughter and I planted our usual zinnias indoors and are just starting to transplant them into our flower beds. We love the blooms of zinnias…and it’s fun to see how big {and a little out of control} they get as the summer wears on.
Using vintage enamel pots and pans, we have our succulents enjoying the spring sunshine on our back porch.
And do you see a little something growing in the ground there? It’s green beans: from our new vegetable garden! James and the kids worked hard to prepare the ground and create a fence for me. {It was my Mother’s Day gift!} And now we have all sorts of yummy veggies starting to sprout. I promise to share more soon!
I hope spring has sprung at your home, whether it’s trees full of green leaves or flowers blooming. Enjoy the beauty that spring offers…and maybe become a plant lady too!
