Adding an accent wall and painting a dresser has changed the entire feel of a teen boy’s bedroom. Both haVE pulled the entire room together.
Recently, I came across a half gallon of black paint {leftover from our library makeover} and asked my teen son if he’d like an accent wall. He quickly responded, “Yes!” Within an hour, it was done. Woohoo!
I then looked around and realized that even though his dresser was fairly recently painted, it didn’t feel right in the room. We both really liked the color. But I knew that if I could tie the dresser color in with the rug, the room would flow much better.

TEEN BOY BEDROOM BEFORE
When making over this room, I painted every wall my go-to fresh color: Behr Swiss Coffee. This lightened and brightened up my teen son’s bedroom.

TEEN BOY BEDROOM DURING
I had a feeling that, by painting an accent wall black, it would add a moody and manliness to his bedroom. So, one afternoon, I had a little free time…

TEEN BOY ACCENT WALL
This black accent wall has really changed the overall feel of his bedroom. It adds enough interest to the room without being overwhelming. {And he is very happy with it as well.} Basically, win-win.
The warmth of the wood and the black of the brackets from his open shelves tie in well with the black wall.

PAINTED DRESSER MAKEOVER
Again, his dresser was great. And it worked well in his room…until we put this rug in here. The two just didn’t jive well together…apparently so much so that I never took a photo of them together.
The rug was great, but just needed something else in the room to pull together with it. And so, I mixed a few chalk paint colors together to come up with an olive green that would correlate with the rug. {Truth be told: James had to step in and help me with the mixing of colors. It’s not my strong point…unless you want shades of brown.}
RUG / CURTAINS / WALL SCONCE / CURTAIN ROD
He and I are both really happy with the outcome of this black accent wall and painted dresser makeover. Now to convince him that I ran out of paint so he can get the idea of all four walls painted black out of his mind!
