Every great room makeover begins with paint. This teen boy bedroom makeover is no exception and the before and after difference is dramatic.
A few weeks ago, I shared our biggest bedroom makeover {click HERE to see!}. It was more of a renovation process, but because of it, we did a bedroom swap. Literally, everyone moved bedrooms. My teenage son was moved to his new permanent room and so this project moved to the top of my to-do list.
I am so excited about the progress made in this teen boy bedroom makeover.

TEEN BOY BEDROOM BEFORE
Now, don’t be jealous of our thumb-tacked curtains that have been like this for {cough, cough} a year. If you don’t know by now, I am all in or not really in. These kept the room dark, so I just ignored it until…now!
You may recognize most of this furniture, bedding, and rug from his farmhouse bedroom makeover. {click HERE for that amazing transformation!}
This was a really sad corner that he had set up and I just ignored for the few weeks between his move in and this makeover.
TEEN BOY BEDROOM DURING
I completed this makeover during our homeschool fall break and day one started with removing everything. And then paint. Because every good room makeover begins with paint.
To save some money in the budget {plus, it’s just the right thing to do} I put one coat of primer on under the two coats of Behr Swiss Coffee (in flat) on the walls. The trim received 2-3 coats of fresh white (Behr base white in satin).
Once the walls were done, I turned my attention to giving the dresser a makeover. I fell in love with the “Homestead Blue” from Fusion Mineral Paint. {Click HERE for paint info.}
TEEN BOY BEDROOM AFTER
It feels like a completely different room. We all love how clean and fresh it feels in his bedroom now.
For now, his bedding is staying, but I am hoping that sometime soon, his actual bed will change. At that point, I would switch out his bedding to a less-gray set.
This bedside lamp is a favorite in our home. My kids love to read right before going to bed and this adds a cozy feel to that time.
I found this stool at a local indoor garage sale and knew instantly that it would become his new nightstand.
The curtains were a decision that my son made. I absolutely love these curtains and have them throughout my house. My thought was to use a beige color in here. He preferred the charcoal gray. Are you sensing a theme?
I did agree to the curtains and the bedding {for now} and he compromised by keeping the shag gray rug out of here. {We moved it to his little brother’s room. And I am working on a replacement rug for in here. I keep coming back to THIS rug inspo!}
The subtle pop of color on the dresser is another detail that I am loving about this teen boy bedroom makeover. The classic hue goes well with our vintage radiators.
Do you see that little desk and the big wide open walls? Oh, friend. I have plans for this space that will be absolutely perfect for my son. Little by little though…but stay tuned!
One of my favorite ways to love on my family is to watch and observe and then create a space unique to just them. Every time I walk by and see him enjoying this bedroom makeover, a smile instantly appears on my face.
I encourage you to do the same. Figure out what a family member would love most and then work to accomplish that. I promise that you will be blessed as much as they are!

This room makeover inspires me to put some effort into the bedroom my two boys share. As they’ve gotten older and messier, I’ve kind of just shut the door and ignored that room, but I would like to make it nice for them.

Just wow! It has a collegiate Ivy League dorm look, and I’m sure he loves it. Way to go Leigh!

Definitely a huge difference! Is he happy with the end result? I Love it all. The dresser adds the perfect amount of color and speaking of color, I love that too. What a great idea, using a stool as a nightstand. I never would have thought of that and it works so well. Taking the, what’s the word…lol, things above the windows down, give a more open look to the windows?!!
It all looks so Beautiful! Is beautiful appropriate for a teen boys room? Either way, I Love the new and complete change in his room!
You did a great transformation Leigh… I Love it!!

The room looks great! I am looking for inspiration for my own son’s room and that led me to your site. I wouldn’t change the bed…I think it looks great in combination with all the other elements of the room!

I LOVE IT! It’s so much brighter and welcoming. The colors on both the walls and dresser… Perfect! It reminds me of that feeling after you wake in the morning and open the curtains and blinds, welcoming the day to come on in. Warmth, light and peacefulness…
