Birthday parties can be fun and memorable all while being budget-friendly. See how we pulled off a teen girl birthday party for under $100!
We recently hosted a birthday party for our daughter. To be honest, we have a few financial goals, but since this was her year for a party {we have a party every other year for each child} I didn’t want to skip it. I told James that I could do a teen girl birthday party for under $100. Wanna see how I pulled it off?

HOST THE PARTY AT HOME
Since our home is a free location, this saved us quite a bit of money. I actually prefer birthday parties in our home as it cuts down on the stress of transporting supplies to another location. Plus, everything we may need is right here!

KEEP THE DECORATIONS SIMPLE
The only decor purchases were balloons, tablecloths, paper plates, and candles. My plan was to scatter 30 balloons all around the party area. But the littlest brother decided to use the static electricity in his hair to hang them from the ceiling.
〈FIREPLACE MAKEOVER〉 〈FAUX MANTEL DIY〉
The dining room table was covered with a plastic tablecloth, some confetti, and small zinnia bouquets from our flower garden. These tiny bouquets also served as little favors for each of the guests to take home.
USE WHAT YOU HAVE FOR AN ACTIVITY
We skipped the goody bags and decided on an arts and crafts favor instead. Using supplies that my daughter already had, the birthday guests spent time painting rocks. She gave them a tutorial and some ideas and then it was fun to see their personalities come out in their rock painting.
We did this activity earlier in the party and once the rocks were dry, I took them outside. To keep the girls from forgetting their painted rocks when they went home, I set up my sealing station right outside our door.
KEEP THE FOOD SIMPLE
By avoiding the lunch or dinner hour, we saved a bit with the food budget. I opted to forgo any store-bought treats and put together a few simple choices at home.
Homemade caramel apples…
muddy buddies…{or puppy chow, whichever you call it} and
baby carrots with dip for anyone wanting something other than sweets.
And then this is when I “dropped the ball” and did not even get a photo of the birthday cake. I know, I was so bummed afterwards because it was soooo good! I do have the recipe for you though, click HERE for a four-layer pumpkin cake.
SIMPLE GAMES/ACTIVITIES
I spent maybe 30 minutes on Pinterest and walked away with a list of games. My goal was games that didn’t require any supplies that we did not already have on hand. Another option is to throw in a board game. We usually play those with our family, so it’s always fun to play with friends instead.
BUDGET
Here is the breakdown of the budget:
Decorations: $13.79
Art Project: $4.39 {we had everything but white acrylic paint}
Food: $55.48
Games: $0
Total Spent: $73.66
It was a really fun and memorable afternoon celebrating a teen girl’s birthday with a few sweet friends. Now…did I get your creative budget-friendly juices going? How can you incorporate these ideas for the next party at your house?

We had a great time and I think some fun memories were created. Bonus is that James is happy with the spending. 😉
