Here we are. At the end of 2019. This is one of my favorite times of the year. Reflecting back, making adjustments, and looking forward. A fresh start is ahead.
This year has been so special to The Little by Little Home. I just celebrated my one year anniversary of this blog and am amazed at how far it {and I} have come. This little space has become “mine” and as a homeschool mom, this has been a huge blessing. A tiny slice of me in this great big world.
My favorite thing about blogging has been inspiring, encouraging, and chatting with you. I’ve always had a heart for sharing and I never would have imagined that God would use this to cross my path with so many wonderful people. The downside is that I wish you were my neighbor and we could get together for summer cook-outs. That would be a lot of fun! I have been blessed by so many of you and I just want to take a moment to say thank you…from the bottom of my heart!
This year has been unique as we settled into our new home. It was so much fun to create a new home when we first moved in. But after a few months, I was burned out. After much thought and prayer, I took 6 months off from blogging. My heart and mind needed a little space. Some room to just be. I continued to share on Instagram, but didn’t post here regularly. It probably wasn’t a “smart business move” but one’s heart is more important than getting ahead.
After those six months off, I felt refreshed and ready to jump back in with two feet. I was amazed at the grace everyone extended me. All the encouragement and support I received when I started back up in September was overwhelming. Just another reason to say thank you.
In honor of blogging for six months this year, I decided to share the “top 6 posts of 2019.” Yes, it’s an odd number, but I feel like it’s significant for my year. Let’s jump right into it:
1. COZY FALL LIVING ROOM
In this post, I shared how a few simple and subtle changes can transition a living room from summer into fall. It was fun to see how it all turned out…especially since I din’t really have a “plan.” {Click HERE for this post.}
2. $100 Room Challenge: Bathroom Makeover
After moving in, there were so many projects to take on. I settled on starting with our full bathroom by joining in the $100 Room Challenge. It was fun to see the drastic difference that $100 can make. {Click HERE for this post.}
3. DAUGHTER’S BEDROOM RENOVATION
This was, by far, the biggest project we tackled in 2019. Demo started in January and she was able to move in by October. Our DIY skills definitely increased during this renovation and we absolutely love the outcome! {Click HERE for the initial reveal and HERE for the makeover.}
4. ENCLOSED PORCH MAKEOVER
This makeover was not planned. But after using our enclosed back porch all summer to go to our back yard, I was disgusted and frustrated by it. It didn’t take a lot of time or money, but by creating functional beauty this area was completely transformed. {Click HERE to see those disgusting before pics.}
5. NATURAL FALL DECOR FOR ANY HOME
This one surprised me a bit since my fall living room was already at the top of this list. But I guess everyone was super interested in my fall decor. The direction I took was a bit different than I’ve ever done before, but I ended up really loving it too! {Click HERE for the full fall home tour.}
6. OUR NEW LIVING ROOM SOFA
After years without a full-size sofa in our farmhouse, we were able to set aside a budget for a “real size” sofa. It took a few months until deliver day arrived and I can say that ever since, I have loved this sofa! {Click HERE to see the very first peek.}
It’s been an amazing year and I just want to thank you again for being a part of it! ♥

I’ve enjoyed a full year with you and the blogging you’ve done. I immediately connected with you because of our similarities and simplicity. We both had just moved into our new homes. We both were trying to put ourselves into these new to us homes and make them ours. I’m still working on mine. I had to come to an abrupt halt when my daughter and her family moved across several states and in with us. I’m still trying to find my place in her family and she is finding her place in our home. Enough of that though.
My favorite makeover was the enclosed porch and your daughter’s bedroom makeover. Your porch became everything I wanted mine to be. Eventually it will get there. Your daughter’s room became that attic bedroom I have always dreamed of. I’m still swooning over it.
I am looking forward to the new year and 4 new Chapter’s. Thank you for bringing us into your home daily and sharing life with us…with me. Here’s to a great ending in 2019 and a brand new year just around the corner!

Leigh, I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing your projects on IG and your family’s day to day that you share, not to mention your blog which I thoroughly enjoy reading. You are such a blessing and I too wish we were neighbors-I know we would be fast friends. We do share many of the same traits, along with a desire for simplicity in our homes and a spirit of ‘can do!’ when tackling home improvements. I wish you and your family continued blessings in the new year!
