After just a few days and changing out a couple items, our vintage bathroom makeover is complete. This project didn’t take a lot of time or a big budget, but the room now looks light and bright.
FULL BATHROOM BEFORE
When we moved in, this full bathroom was technically our only bathroom. {If you missed the second “bathroom” we had, click HERE to see what I’m talking about!} We had downsized from 3 full bathrooms to 1. It took a little while to adjust, but we did. And adding a half bathroom/laundry room was another great solution too!

Two months after moving in, I gave this full bathroom a $100 room makeover. A year later, I gave it a quick refresh. And here we are: one year after that refresh and I decided it was time for another vintage bathroom makeover.

FULL BATHROOM MAKEOVER PLAN
My goal for this makeover was to lighten and brighten the room and make it feel cohesive to the rest of the house. And even thought the gray is a neat color {Behr Dolphin Fin} it has a cool tone and I have painted the interior of our house in a warm tone. This bathroom just felt out of place.
The shower ceiling needed some scraping and repainting too. That part wasn’t glamorous, but it needed some cleaning up. When we moved in, there wasn’t a fan to vent the steam. We found out a few months in that we really needed one, and so, James installed a fan a year ago.
Once the walls and trim was painted, I minimized the items on the open shelves and left only what was needed. This was a good excuse to clear out anything extra in the entire bathroom.
After that, I added a pop of color with new towels. And then came the shower curtain. My original handmade one didn’t make it and I changed it out for a cheap one that shrank terribly. I really wanted a long shower curtain, but those tend to be out of my budget. So I did what any budget-conscious person does: I purchased a set of curtain panels and clipped three up to look like a shower curtain.
THE REVEAL
These plantation shutters have been the perfect solution for this window. They give us privacy, but also allow light, and on nice days, fresh air.
The shelves had become a catch-all and I uncluttered them…figured I might as well since they were removed for the painting.
I am quite smitten with the color of these towels. They’re a rose/salmon and compliment the vintage green tile in our shower.
This sink. It isn’t the one that “came with the house.” But it looks just like it. After some leaking issues due to rust, we replaced the other one with this sink. James recently changed out the faucets due to one of then always running. {Click HERE for the changing of the sink.}
BEHIND THE SCENES
My shower curtain hack seems to be working so far. To be honest, I would have preferred fabric that wasn’t so sheer, but for the price I saved by buying window curtains, I’m just going to be content with it. “It doesn’t have to be perfect to be perfect.”
There is one last item in the bathroom that needs updating and that is the light fixture. I decided to hold off on that for a little bit. But I’m on the hunt for a vintage fixture that won’t break the bank and will give off the light we need in here. {This is our only light source in the bathroom as there isn’t a ceiling light.}
This cabinet was the perfect solution for storage, as well as not taking up much floor space. {Click HERE for the details of when we added this.}
FINAL THOUGHTS
At first, I didn’t know if I liked this vintage bathroom makeover. Part of it was because it is the only room that I have repainted in our home and it felt like the gray was the color it had to be. But once I gave the trim and baseboard a fresh coat of white paint, it felt like this room is a part of the rest of our home.
I am so glad that I spent some time giving this bathroom a whole new look. The bonus was that I already had the paint on hand. This saved the budget for the fun items of towels and a shower curtain.
Meanwhile, my family is wondering if I will give it another makeover in a year since that seems to be my timeline for this bathroom!

I love how you tie everything together Leigh! Touches of salmon in fabrics throughout your home, wood tones, warm paint colors, mixing some metals. Touches of modern & vintage done well! Great job!
